In the words of Claudia M: On April 30th at 9:40 P.M. I gave birth to my son Jacob. I am in awe of this time in my life and of the unbelievable support I received from Barbara and Cynthia, before, during and after his birth. What can you say about care that you could only dream about? I had heard about "the midwives" and how amazing they were. I had no idea, however, that I would receive care that included not only the utmost professionalism, but also great, and at times much needed humor and and unending supply of emotional support. When Jacob was born in April, I was born again too. Without this care and honesty from Barbara and Cynthia, my love for my child would be no less great, but my confidence and belief in myself would have been altered. I am sure of this. CBS Midwives, through their compassionate understanding during my pregnancy, helped me to become the mother I wanted to be. I will never forget my childbirth experience, and I surely will always remember "the Midwives," the great, great midwives... |
In the words of Lisa P:
I delivered two children with CBS Midwifery. My youngest daughter was born just six weeks ago. I had two very different and very beautiful birth experiences under their care.
My oldest daughter was born in a breech position and a midwife was with me throughout a failed version, providing coaching in relaxation and reassurance. I needed a planned Cesarian section because the baby's chin was tilted back and would have become stuck on my pubic bone if I delivered vaginally. I was initially upset about not having the natural birth I had envisioned, but the midwives were understanding and helpful throughout the planned operation. Barbara was with me throughout the Cesarian, holding my hand and telling me what was happening surgically and what to anticipate next. Her expertise and manner were tremendously comforting. Her nurturing presence helped make the operation a beautiful and moving experience for my husband and myself.
I decided to attempt a vaginal delivery with my second pregnancy. The labor went very smoothly and quickly with just my husband and Cynthia present until I was well into pushing. It almost felt like a home birth, although it was in St. Vincent's, because Cynthia kept unnecessary people and distractions away. She seemed to know just how much and when to be directive or comforting, and when I needed to be left alone.
Both Cynthia and Barbara were attuned to my needs, understanding of me as a person and non-judgmental about the decisions I made. I felt that they did not have an agenda about a "correct" way to give birth, and would have been supportive if I wanted additional tests during my pregnancy, if I wanted medication during labor, or even if I had decided to have a second planned Cesarian. They made it clear that they wanted what was best for me both physically and emotionally. Their competence and experience was helpful and their genuine desire to accommodate their patients' concerns is unusual. I am delighted with the way they cared for me during my pregnancies and births. They helped my daughters enter the world safely and joyously.
